John Mellencamp and Stephen King's ghostly musical
If you’re going to be at Atlanta, Georgia's Alliance Theater in September 2010, you'll be in for a ghostly treat. You could be one of the first people ever to see the new musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.
What makes this musical extra special are the two men responsible for its birth. The musical, which was first mentioned nearly 10 years ago, features a script written by Maine's own horror novelist, Stephen King, and a musical score written by the rock legend John Mellencamp, of "Small Town" fame.
Mellencamp revealed that the musical “centers on the deaths in 1957 of two brothers and a young girl and the legend that grows out of the tragedy.”
The show is also described as "a sultry, Southern gothic mystery with a blues-tinged, guitar-driven score."
According to reports, King will appear in the musical much like he does in films that are based on his books. Other reported cast members include Mellencamp, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Neko Case, Kris Kristofferson, Roseanne Cash and boxer Joe Frazier.
Prior to the musical’s debut, a 3-disc set will be released. Two of the discs will feature the entire musical, while the third disc will contain its soundtrack, which was produced by T-Bone Barrett. So if you can't catch the musical live, don't fret, you'll still be able to experience it to some degree.
